Through two generous grants from South Shore Community Partners in Prevention, Terra Cura Inc. in partnership with Healthy Plymouth, ran a Mobile Farmers Market Program on Colchester Farm in Plympton, Massachusetts during the summer of 2018 and 2019. These grants allowed youth from Algonquin Heights apartments in Plymouth to work two days on the farm over the summer and provide fresh organic produce at a mobile farmers market located in the food pantry where they live.

The high school students learned how to grow their own food, work on the farm and also care for the animals. New England Village was an active partner in this program and we worked in tandem with them and the individuals they serve through their integrated work opportunities at the farm. The students were provided opportunities for career exploration and as well as visits from entrepreneurs who pursued their passion to make it their careers. A presentation by Debbie Ballum on cut flower arranging was co-sponsored by New England Village and was a big hit.

One of the highlights of the program was the Family Fun Farm Day where the community comes to the farm to participate in activities like a scavenger hunt for fairy house created by the kids, nature based crafts and cooking demonstrations presented by Carole Guerin from UMASS Extension and Marica Richards from Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital.
